SAME-SEX MARRIAGE AND THE LAW

The definition of the word marriage is a topic that is often debated and disagreed upon in our society today. In the dictionary, the definition of marriage has changed from just, "the relationship that exists between a husband and a wife" to now "a similar relationship between people of the same sex, a ceremony in which two people are married to each other" being added.

As of today, 19 out of 50 states have legalized same-sex marriage.

The 1st amendment of the Constitution states that a person’s religious beliefs or a lack of thereof must be protected. Legislatures also cannot discriminate against marriages of the minority party which, homosexual people fall into that category. There is also an amendment stating there is separation of church and state, so you cannot declare that a marriage is a gift from God.

Conclusion:
Same sex couples should be allowed the same opportunity as couples of the opposite sex to get married. To decide that a couple isn’t worthy of marriage because they are of the same sex is unfair and cruel. People argue that same-sex couples will ruin the devoutness of marriage but, we as heterosexual couples, have already done so and are allowed to make a joke of a serious situation. em to marry won’t ruin or even slightly affect the spirituality of marriage.
