OSTEOMYELITIS

SYMPTOMS

  • Fever
  • Pain where the infection is
  • Chills
  • Swelling over the infection
  • Nausea
  • Irritability

DIAGNOSIS/TREATMENT

  • Diagnosis: blood tests, x-rays, CT scans, MRI, and Doctor will check for warm swelling areas.
  • Treatments: antibiotics, surgery, or both.
  • Surgery- infected tissue and bone removed
  • Antibiotics- bring infection under control/helps avoid surgery

WHO GETS THIS DISEASE?

  • Children- usually acute/easy to treat/found in the arms and legs
  • Adults- can be acute or chronic/ found in the pelvis or vertebrae/may occur in feet(mainly adults with diabetes)

FACTS

  • 2 out of 10,000 people get this disease
  • Diabetes can increase your risk for this disease
