THE OPENING OF DISNEYLAND

On July 17, 1955, Disneyland opened for a few thousand specially invited visitors. The next day Disneyland opened to everyone.

INSPIRATION FOR DISNEYLAND

• Walt Disney would take his two daughters to play at the carousel every Sunday.
• He first thought of a park to build that was only eight-acres.
• But he then realized that would not be big enough

BUILDING DISNEYLAND

• The total cost of building Disneyland would be $17 million
• Construction began on July 21, 1954

Disneyland became a very popular place to have fun and still is. As of 2014 , Disneyland has welcomed around 700 million guests.

Disneyland is a year round theme park

FACTS

• Mickey Mouse ears are the most popular souvenir from Disneyland.
• When the park first opened it only had 18 attractions . The park now has 51.

IMPACT

• Disneyland soon became a place to have fun with friends and family.
• Disneyland showed that Walt Disney was expanding beyond his film roots.
