• Inform the people and inspire and activate their interests
• take stands on current events

BONDING AGENT FUNCTION

• Insures good performance of of its candidates
• Prompts candidates to win

GOVERNING

• Provides conduct for the government
• Branches must cooperate to acomplish things

WATCHDOG FUNCTION

• Parties act like watchdogs over the conduct of public business
• The party in power is the one who controls the executive branch
