WHAT IS SHAHADA

  • It is the first thing whispered to an infant and the last thing when they die
  • It is submission to Muhammad from Muslims
  • It establishes monotheism
  • It means the Muslim profession of faith

WHAT IS SALAT

  • It is the five daily prayers
  • They pray in the direction of the qui’ ba
  • If a problem occurs, sickness, or a reason that you cant pray it will be postponed
  • You can pray in mosques or anywhere you want

WHAT IS ZAKAT

  • It is an obligation for all Muslims that can pay for will make a donation
  • You pay 2.5%-20% (or 1/40) of a your total savings
  • When you do not have enough money you qualify as nisab
  • If you don’t have enough money to make a donation you are excused from donating
  • The dontations go to charities, betterment of Islam, people in need and good foundations

WHAT IS SAWM

  • SAWM is fasting during Ramadan
  • The fasting starts between dawn and nightfall when the evening adhan is sounded
  • When you fast, you can’t eat, drink, smoke and you don’t have sexual activity
  • The fasting is a time for reflection, good deeds and striving to be a better person
  • If you have a problem and you cant fast, you don’t have to
  • Fasting end differently for each branch of islam

WHAT IS HAJJ

  • Hajj is when you make a journey to Mecca and celebrate
  • It begins on the 7th day of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, that is the last month of the islamic year and ends on the 12th day
  • One must make the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime
  • If you cant make it, family can go for you
  • Men wear white 2 piece garments which symbolize equality with their brothers
