  • doesn't express this failure efficiently
  • This failure came upon him in times of stress

Examples of The Shadow

  • occurred mainly during baseball games
  • "the moment billy failed, he looked for something to break"(Lewis 9)
  • "it was as if Billy didn't know how to fail"(Lewis 9)

  • The shapeshifter is a character who misleads the hero and changes their intentions over time.
  • The motivation of a shapeshifter can be difficult to understand due to the inconsistencies they provide to the protagonist.

  • The father of the Maribal family shared aspects of the "Shapeshifter" archetype by the secrets he kept.

Examples of the shapeshiter

  • He hid the truth that he had a second family including daughters who were past the infant years.
  • This would require him to lie more then often about where he was going and who he was with.
  • He also carried the demeanor of a strong man but was actually the most dependent emotionally in the family.

Caught red handed

  • "You have to believe me. I only go to see my children. I'm not involved with thier mother anymore" (Alvarez, p.91 Ch.6)

underdog

  • One that is expected to lose a contest or struggle, as in sports or politics.

Scott Hatteberg

  • Scott was meant to play as first basemen for the Oakland A's but for the longest time had issues with just the basic concepts of being a first basemen.

Examples of the underdog

  • The first game of the season Scott showed that he had no concept of first basemen.
  • "You could see he shouldn't be out there. He was on his heels. He didn't know where to go, what to do, how to do it. In the back of his mind he was saying 'I want nothing to happen in my area." (Lewis 166)
