IDEA

  • Individuals with Disability Education Act.
  • Under this act students were able to get a free and appropriate education.
  • It does not require inclusion however it does mean that students will be placed in the Least Restrictive Environment. (LRE)
  • Each student has their own unique needs and if they are capable of spending time in a regular classroom they will spend more time there if it is possible.

The Research

  • The research is still new but here is what we know.
  • Students with mild disabilities who have been integrated into classrooms have seen much better improvements than those in pull out programs.
  • Students with more severe disabilities don't see as much change however they do learn better social skills in the classroom.
