INTEGRATION

  • Ruby bridges was a 6 year old child and the first child to integrate.
  • Ruby was born the same year that the supreme courts Brown vs Board
  • Of education decided to desegregate the schools.

CIVIL RIGHTS

  • Her bravery caused the government to continue with the civil rights actions.

FAMILY

  • Due to Ruby's integration, her father lost his job, her grandparents had to
  • move off the land that they had sharecropped for 25 years.
  • The grocery store banned them from entering.

AFTERWARDS

  • Families of both races sent their children back to school.
  • A neighbor provided Ruby's father with a job.
  • Their community began to protect Ruby and her family.
  • Robert Coles published a book called "The Story of Ruby Bridges"
