Technology is automating many jobs

Welcome to...some kind of hooky question? Many jobs that exist today may be automated by technology in the future. In addition to that, the internet allows work to happen everywhere and anytime giving you more control over your future employment decisions.

Jobs at risk

47% of jobs that are out there today are at risk for being automated by technology in the future.

Likely to be Automated

  • Cashiers
  • Waitstaff
  • Roofers
  • Motorcycle Mechanics
Cashiers, waitstaff, roofers and motorcycle mechanics are several examples of jobs that require skills that could be done by some sort of technology.

"...human skills that can’t be shifted to computers..." VT Secretary of Education Rebecca Holcombe

Much of the research is showing that the best jobs of the future have yet to be created. They will require skills that cannot be done by a computer or technology.

"So in order to make it today, you have to do work that's hard to outsource, hard to automate" Daniel Pink

That increases the possibility that you will actually be creating your own jobs. The changes in the world are creating more problems that need to be solved providing you all with opportunities to identify and solve those problems.

  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Community involvement
  • Critical thinking
We need to teach a new set of skills because solving problems requires...

Teachers are taking risks to learn how to teach these skills

Teachers are working very hard to learn more about how to best teach these skills. They are taking many risks in order to learn faster than they have ever had to before, so that you can gain these skills and be successful.

We will be asking you to...

  • Make decisions about your learning
  • Think about your interests
  • Take risks
  • Set goals
  • Reflect
  • Revise
We will be asking you to do the same thing in order to better prepare you for your futures. We will be asking you to...
