WHAT DO TREE RINGS TELL ABOUT THE PAST?

Tree Rings

The rings in tree trunks are also a tool for studying the past.the widths of tree rings vary, depending on how much the trees grow in various years. Tree rings are thin when growing conditions are poor. A think ring is a sign of a good year for growth p, with enough rainfall. By analyzing the tree rings of many old trees, scientist can develop an accurate history of overall weather patterns over time.

Hypothesis

If we count the rings on this tree then we will be able to find out the climate and rainfall it had that year because of the width of the rings.

Data

Image 1: 12 rings with a good amount of rainfall during 2nd, 3rd, and 9th year.
Image 2: 70 rings with a good amount of rainfall at the beginning during the 4th,5th and 10th year, towards the end it had horrible amount of rainfall.
Example 3: 34 rings with a very good amount of rain in 1997.

Analysis

During the experiment we found that image 1 was the youngest at 12 yrs old, the tree slab was the second youngest at 34 yrs old , and image 2 was the oldest at 50 yrs old

In conclusion, we found out that the wider the width of the tree rings are the greater the amount of rainfall
