Electricity is formed by electrons flowing in a path. Stripping electrons from hydrogen would allow the electrons to flow freely.

Hydrogen Cell

  • Anode is the first layer
  • Anode strips the atom of its electron 2H2 → 4H+ + 4e−
  • Proton exchange membrane is the second layer
  • Cathode is the third layer
  • Hydrogen bonds with oxygen and makes water
  • O2 + 4H+ + 4e− → 2H2O
