HUGHES D-2

  • Hughes aircraft

  • Built Hughes D-2
  • Flown in the Arizona desert in secrecy
  • Vibration issues
  • Mysterious fire destroying finished D-2 and second nearly complete D-2
  • Project haulted

HUGHES H-1

  • Built by Howard Hughes himself
  • Designed as a racing aircraft
  • Broke multiple speed records
  • Trans-continental and airspeed
  • Crashed into a beet field

HUGHES XF-11

  • Built in place of the D--2
  • Flown on July 7th 1946
  • Due to a propeller hub failure the first prototype crashed
  • Killing 1 and severely injuring another
  • Howard burned severely and hospitalized

HK-1/H-4 "SPRUCE GOOSE

  • Requested by the Airforce
  • Required to be built from "unconventional methods"
  • Sea plane
  • World war 2 ends
  • No longer needed
