FACTS

  • One of the original 13 colonies
  • On the Atlantic side of North America
  • Existed between 1636 and 1776

CONNECTICUT'S COLONY WAS

  • Mild winter and summer
  • Thuderstorms most often occur in summer
  • Tornados almost every year
  • Hurricanes occasionally effect the weather

GEOGRAPHY

  • Lots of mountains with thick tree growth
  • Rivers and rocky soil that is not good for growing things
  • Narrow low lands and uplands to the east

WHY WAS IT FOUNDED

  • For political freedom and for religious freedom
  • Because of an argument at Massachusetts Bay

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

  • Puritans did not allow any kind of religious freedom
  • You could not live with any Puritans to be religiously free

Manual workers, servants, apprentices, sailors, hired hands and semi-skilled tradesmen were some of the types of people in the Connecticut Colony.

PEOPLE IN THE HIGHER CLASSES

HAD PLACES IN THE GOVERNMENT, AND COULD VOTE.
