The Osage

Daily life

  • Because there was a lot to be done, men would hunt, and the woman would butcher and prepare the meat.
  • Some children would like to hunt and fish with their fathers; whereas, others just played with toys.
  • For work the woman would work with the hides and care for the children, while the men went to war.

Clothing

  • Women wore just deer skin; though, men had more options.

Crafts
The crafts were things like beading and woodcarving; beading was the most popular.

Housing

  • They use to live in round earthern lodges made of wooden frames covered with packed earth, for colonization moved them into modern houses and apartment buildings.

Food

  • Men did all the hunting, so the women would butch and prepare the meat.
  • They ate a variety of meat, yet buffalo was the big one.
  • There was a range of fruits and vegetables, and the women were in charge of it all.

General info.

  • The Osage lived in Missouri, but they moved to Oklahoma.

Transportation

  • The Osage did not have cars, so they traveled by dogs pulling a travois.

Weapons

  • The Osage had many weapons, yet they mainly used a bow and arrow.
