STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DEFINE PERIODIC MOTION.

Periodic motion is motion that repeats at a constant rate. The most important part is its cycle. This means that each repeated motion takes the same amount of time.

The time it takes for each cycle to repeat is called the frequency.

THE CAUSE OF PERIODIC MOTION

IS RESTORING FORCE, PULLING THE OBJECT BACK TO THE RESTING POINT.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

IS A PENDULUM AN EXAMPLE OF PERIODIC MOTION ?

A clock pendulum is an example of periodic motion because as the clock pendulum swings it then swings the same distance on the other side. The motion is in constant repartition

Quiz
1. Is a ball that bounces an example of periodic motion ?
2. Is a football player running an example ?
3. Is a guitar string vibrating an example of periodic motion ?

ANSWERS

  • No - the bouncing ball does not have the curve and the maximum velocity is right after it hits the ground while in periodic motion it is fastest in the middle of the amplitude
  • No
  • Yes

Biblical integration
In Hebrews13:8 the bible says "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Just like the motion doesn't change in periodic motion so God doesn't change his ways. He was the same 20 years ago as he was 2000 years ago.
