"Pedagogy of Peculiarity"
Kumaravadivelu (2003) introduced the concept of Pedagogy for Particularity, defined as “context-sensitive, location-specific pedagogy that is based on a true understanding of local linguistic, sociocultural, and political particularities” (p. 544). This perspective of teacher education is based on the notion that learning is perpetuated through contextually bound social activities and sensitive to particular local needs and goals. Providing teachers opportunities to engage with multicultural learning communities arguably improves their efficacy with students and contributes to reflection on teacher identity development (Ladson-Billings, 2011).
