Blue whales are gray-blue in color with light gray spots all over their bodies.

SIZE

  • largest animal in the world!
  • 82 to 105 feet (25 to 32 meters) long
  • up to 200 tons (400,000 pounds)
  • females are larger than males

FEEDING

  • eat up to 8,000 pounds of krill each day
  • eat cope pods
  • have baleen instead of teeth to filter their food

MIGRATION

  • summer/hot: they travel toward the poles or cooler places to feed
  • winter/cold: travel toward the equator or warmer places to breed
  • cover thousands of miles
  • travel for several weeks

BABIES

  • instead of krill the baby drinks milk for the first 6 to 18 months
  • Can drink 150 gallons of milk per day

INTERESTING FACTS

  • can live up to 80 years
