PHARAOH, PHARAOH

Pharaoh, pharaoh, ooh baby
Let my people go

Pharaoh, pharaoh, ooh baby
Let my people go, yeah yeah yeah

Well a burnin' bush told me just the other day
That I should come over here and stay
Got to get my people out of pharaoh's hand
And lead them to the promised land

Chorus

Well me and god's people comin' to the Red Sea
And pharaoh's army chasin' after me
I raised my staff and stuck it in the sand
And all of god's people walked on dry land...

Chorus

Well pharaoh's army was comin' too
So what do you think that I did do
I raised my staff and I cleared my throat
And all of pharaoh's army
Did the dead man's float...

Chorus

Officiant: Lord, open our lips.
People: and our mouths shall proclaim your praise.

Officiant & people: glory to the father, and the son, and the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

THE READINGS

Psalm 127

Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Psalm 127 (continued)

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth.

Psalm 127 (continued)

Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

A reading from 1 Samuel

Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, ‘You are old and your sons do not follow in your ways; appoint for us, then, a king to govern us, like other nations.’But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, ‘Give us a king to govern us.’

A reading from 1 Samuel

Samuel prayed to the Lord, and the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. Just as they have done to me, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt to this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so also they are doing to you. Now then, listen to their voice; only―you shall solemnly warn them, and show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them.’

A reading from Matthew 16: 21-23

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

A reading from Matthew 16: 21-23 (continued)

Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” He said. “This shall never happen to you!”

Jesus turned and said to Peter, “get behind me, Satan! You are stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

CONSEQUENCES

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

The collects

Oh lord, help us sow good seeds so when the time comes for us to reap, all there is to reap is joy, peace, and fun. Although sometimes it is necessary for us to sow the seeds of sorrow, pain, and regret, please allow for the light to outshine the black and let us know that after the darkest of nights the sun will still rise.

The collects (continued)

Allow us to learn from the times we must face negative repercussions for our actions, and also that we may live in peace and seek out life, liberty, and have the ability to pursue happiness to the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The collects, prayer for mission, & special prayers

The general thanksgiving (p 101 bcp)

Almighty God, father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made.

We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

TRADING MY SORROWS

I'm trading my sorrows
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying them down
For the joy of the Lord

I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying them down
For the joy of the Lord

We say yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord
Yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord
Yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord, Amen.

Repeat all

I'm trading my sorrows
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying them down
For the joy of the Lord

I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying them down
For the joy of the Lord

We say yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord
Yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord
Yes lord, yes lord,
Yes, yes lord, Amen.
