RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES

Influenza

  • Caused by influenza virus Cough (with some pneumonias you may cough up greenish or yellow mucus, or even bloody mucus) Fever, which may be mild or high Shaking chills

Treatment and Prevention

  • Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen secretions and bring up phlegm. Get lots of rest.
  • Control Fever with anti-inflammatory drug
  • Get a flu shot
  • Wash your hands

Asthma

  • Many causes different from person to person: allergies , exercising, infections, etc.
  • a tight feeling in the chest, shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.

Treatment and Prevention

  • A variety of medicines can help control asthma, but regular healthcare and an action plan are important parts of your treatment.
  • Prevention: Try to take yourself from situations that could trigger an asthma attack.

Acute Bronchitis

  • Acute bronchitis is usually caused by a respiratory virus and occasionally by bacterial infection
  • Coughing up mucus that may be yellow or green Runny and stuffy nose starting a few days before the chest congestion Feeling run-down or tired

Treatment and Prevention

  • Most bronchitis goes away on its own rest, fluids, and pain relievers
  • Get a flu shot, wash hands, avoid lung irritants.

Coccidioidomycosis

  • A fungus, Coccidioides, causes coccidioidomycosis.
  • Most time minimal symptoms or no, but when symptoms include:Cough Chest pain Shortness of breath Fever

Treatment and Prevention

  • Treatment with antifungal medications may be prescribed for those with more severe symptoms or symptoms lasting 8 weeks or longer.
  • Stay inside during dust storms and avoid close contact to dirt and dust.

Mesothelioma

  • Asbestos fiber exposures over a long time
  • Shortness of breath Chest pain, increased during breathing efforts Dry, persistent cough Frequent chest cold symptoms

Treatment and Prevention

  • No real big treatment suitable for it but can under go chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.
  • Stay away from super long exposure of asbestos.
