Purpose

  • Cardboard (and paper) is the most common product in landfills
  • Each day industry adds millions of pounds of cardboard to landfills
  • This cardboard would have been thrown out or picked up by a scavenger
  • The city of Chicago does not recycle
  • Landfills consist of over 40% cardboard

WHY THIS PROJECT?

  • Wanted usable product
  • Knew where the cardboard was
  • No need to buy materials
  • Able to design and build it

ENVIRONMENTAL/SOCIETAL IMPACT OF PRODUCT

  • Less cardboard in landfill
  • Shows cardboard is a building material
  • Re-using Binders
  • Functionable, light-weight chair

WHAT RESOURCES ARE CONSERVED AND WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

  • Conserved: trees, oil, coal, stone (for factories)
  • Important: Minimize our impact on earth
  • Not reach the top of Hubbard's Peak as fast
