HISTORY

  • HIV/AIDS originated in non-human primates in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • It was transferred to humans during the late 19th or early 20th century.
  • The pandemic strain of HIV-1 is closely related to a virus found in chimpanzees.
  • They live in the forests of the Central African nations of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.

SPREAD

  • HIV-2 is less transmittable and is largely confined to West Africa.
  • It is a virus of the sooty mangabey, an Old World monkey.
  • It inhabits southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
  • IT also inhabits the western Ivory Coast.

ORPHANS

  • 63% of the children in South Africa are orphans because of HIV/AIDS.
  • Most of the children orphaned by AIDS that live outside of Africa live in Asia.
  • Children whose parents are living with HIV often experience many negative changes in their lives.
  • Most of these children suffer from neglect.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • HIV and AIDS affects economic growth by reducing the availability of human capital.
  • There is not proper nutrition, health care and medicine available in developing countires.
  • There is large numbers of people are falling victim to AIDS.
  • People living with HIV/AIDS will require significant medical care.

  • The brand names are Atripla, Complera, and Stribild.
  • It is not a cure, but it can stop people from becoming ill for many years.
  • The treatment consists of drugs that have to be taken every day for the rest of someone's life.
  • This medicine for HIV infection consists of drugs which work against HIV infection itself by slowing it down.
  • It helps slow the reproduction of HIV infected cells.
