  • A way of describing something by comparing it to something else

Personification

  • To give human characteristics to something that is not human 
  • The friendly gate welcomed us

Alleration

  • Reception of the first constant sound at the beginning of the word.  
  • Penny piper picked a piece of cake.

  • When a word's pronunciation imitates its sounds

Hyperbole

  • A exaggerated statement used to heighten effect. It is NOT used to
