PRESENTATION OUTLINE

COACHING SKILLS 101

BY JOE LIOTINE

Every great coach started their career as a novice. Here are some tips I wish someone had told me when I started coaching youth sports to help me get into the right mindset.

1. Plan. Plans change, but at least bring something concrete to the table.

2. Develop strong communication skills and please never stop trying to make them better.

3. Learn to effectively use social media and email to communicate and stay in touch with players.

4. Never ever stop learning and learn for the rest of your life.

5. Try to be be open-minded.

6. What you might lack in knowledge try to make up for with desire, enthusiasm, and passion.

7. Always be a role model for your players.

8. Do accept constructive criticism as a positive experience. Learn from mistakes and take steps to improve from the experience and move on.

9. Allocate a few moments every day for personal health, fitness, and wellness.

10. Keep a diary and record work done by your athletes, not just what you planned to be done.
