Slide Notes

As we begin our movement into the U space of Theory U, we intentionally work to open our mind from simply downloading ideas that match our existing ideas and judgments, discarding those that do not match without further reflection. This allows us to co-initiate this process as members of the group all seek to create an Open Mind.

OPEN MIND

MOVING FROM DOWNLOADING TO CO-INITIATING
As we begin our movement into the U space of Theory U, we intentionally work to open our mind from simply downloading ideas that match our existing ideas and judgments, discarding those that do not match without further reflection. This allows us to co-initiate this process as members of the group all seek to create an Open Mind.

CO-INITIATING

LISTEN TO GOD AND TO OTHERS
In this work of co-initiating, we develop a stance of listening, both to God and to others.

FOCUSING

SURFACING CURRENT REALITY
As we listen, we begin to surface the current reality, to better understand issues and assumptions that underlie our actions and ideas.

SUSPENDING

SEEING WITH FRESH EYES
A hummingbird's wings are usually a blur--it is when we are able to suspend, to slow down, that we can begin to see new structures that exist below our usual consciousness.

OPENING

UNCONDITIONAL WITNESSING
This new seeing creates an opening, sometimes small to start, through which we can begin to witness what is going on without being constrained by our usual judgments and assumptions.

DEBATE

TALKING TOUGH
As we step into Open Mind, we move beyond our typical "talking nice" behavior that does not move us beyond our assumptions and judgments and into a place where different viewpoints, sometimes engaged by our deepest passions, can emerge.

I-IN-IT

I AM MY POINT OF VIEW

RESISTANCE=VOJ

OLD & LIMITING PATTERNS OF JUDGMENT & THOUGHT
The resistance to movement into Open Mind is our Voice of Judgment (VOJ). Our old and limiting patterns of thought prevent us from opening to other points of view.

ADAPTIVE SYSTEM

CONFRONTING RULES
As we move through our resistance (VOJ), we can confront our old rules and develop an adaptive system, one that sees new direction without old constraints.

ATTEND & CONNECT

PROCESS AND STRUCTURES
At this level of Open Mind, we can see and attend to existing process and structures, and to connect in new ways that might work more successfully.
