TOLD BY THE MERCHANT
The merchant is a shrewd, intelligent man how can strike a bargain.
MAIN CHARACTERS
- January- an old knight wanting to marry a young maiden
- May- the young maiden wants to marry, but he can't satisfy her needs
- Damian- the deceptive servant who falls in love with May.
Significance of tale:
The merchant tell his tell to counterbalance the clerics tale.

COMMENTARY
THE PRACTICE OF MARRIAGE: IT'S GOOD AND BAD
An old Knight marries.
His servant falls in love with his wife. the wife falls in love with the servant. Knight goes blind and the wife and servant tries to deceive him and get caught because the knight receives his eyesight back. The wife makes a convincing lie and he believes it.
