PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Wait! Don't eat me! You're taking me away from my family. Do you even know whats gonna happen to me when you eat me? You don't. Well then, follow me and you will find out. Goodbye family!
First I go into the mouth. That is where the teeth tear me into small peices.Wait, the incisors and molars going to rip me to shreds! So far I don't like mechanical digestion. Then the enzymes in the saliva break me down some more. The chemical digestion comes with come later... bad. That's how the digestive system starts.
After I get chewed, I get to ride down the esophagus. The epiglottis opens up so I can get through. I get pushed by muscles to get down. This is peristalsis. This mechanical digestion isn't bad, but the chemical digestion is coming soon.
No I'm in the stomach. The digestive juice in the stomach contains hydronic acid and pepsin to break me down by churning around. You'd think the acid would hurt the stomach, but it's lined with mucus to protect it. This is where I get changed from a solid to a liquid.
Now I'm in the small intestine, where most of the chemical digestion and absorption happens. The liver produced bile to break down fat particles into smaller ones. Then the bile flows into the gallbladder. The pancreas produces enzymes to break down fat, proteins, and starches. The fiber in food isn't broken down, it thickens the liquid up so it's easier to move along. The surface may look bumpy, but really it's just covered with villi. They absorb nutrient molecules.
Now the large intestine. And Most of the absorption has happened. The large intestine contains bacteria that feed on the material passing through. They don't cause diseases, but produce vitamins like vitamin K. Then, I get to the rectum where in am compressed into a solid. After that, I finally get eliminated through the anus. And that is the end of my adventure!
