BACKGROUND INFO

• Born in Torun, Poland in 1473 on February 19th

EARLY LIFE

• Father died when he was 13.
• Uncle took them under his protection after his died
• In 1491 he was inrolled in the university cracow
• The youngest of 4 kids
• He was the sun of a wealthy merchant

INSPERATION

• He was disturbed by the failure of Ptolemy's geocentric model of the universe.

• Nicolaus believed this theory
• That the sun is at rest near the center of the universe
• And that earth, spinning on its axis once daily , revolves annually around the Sun
• This is called the heliocentric , or sun-centered system

REACTION

• Copernicus's theory's were rejected by The Scullers Of His Time
• They insensed the catholic church where he worked
• They banned anyone to read it for many centuries to come

END OF LIFE

• He died at the age of 70 on 24 May 1543.
• He was seized with apoplexy and paralysis.
• As he awoke from his reduced coma, he looked at his best book and died
