POSEIDON

  • He is god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses
  • Son of Kronos and Rhea
  • He was eaten, along with his siblings by Kronos
  • He and his siblings, the gods, defeated the Titans
  • Poseidon fathered Pegasus

BATTLE OVER ATHENS

  • He competed with Athena, his niece, to be patron god of Athens
  • She gave Athens an olive tree
  • Poseidon shoved his trident into the acropolis and a saltwater spring appeared
  • Athena ended up winning over the people of Athens

ATLANTIS

  • Poseidon lived in the city of Atlantis
  • He married Cleito and she bore him ten sons, including Atlas
  • The island of Atlantis was said to have been larger than Libya and Asia combined
  • Eventually the ten people who ruled Atlantis started marrying mortal women and took too much power
  • Zeus didn't like them having that much power and destroyed the island
