Landfills

A Landfill is a place to dispose other waste.
Have you ever wondered where your trash ends up?

The US population discards each year 16,000,000,000 diapers, 1,600,000,000 pens, 2,000,000,000 razor blades, 220,000,000 car tires, and enough aluminum to rebuild the United States commercial air fleet four times.

Many materials that end up as waste contain toxic substances. Over time, these toxins leak into our soil and groundwater, which then becomes an environmental hazard for years. Electronic waste is a good example, televisions, computers and other electronic appliances contain a long list of hazardous substances, including mercury, arsenic, cadmium, PVC, solvents, acids and lead.

We the people are the biggest contributors to all the landfills that are around. A common example is how people do not think if their trash can be recycled before they throw it away. Although they still throw it away without even thinking about it. No one benefits from landfills because they cause harm to the environment and even us.

There are many effects to the environment from exposure to these harmful chemicals. Toxic chemicals in the air and harmful chemicals on Earth can seep into our groundwater and can cause many illnesses or genetic mutations to the people who consume it. Also, it harms the soil around which prevents people from planting food and consuming it.

From landfills, pollution can have a serious effect on humans because it can cause cancer, birth defects and genetic mutations. This shows how this problem should be dealt with since these illnesses are very serious to human beings.

In Washington, about 8,300 tons of garbage is transported and dumped each day. The remaining life is 51.5 years. This shows how we should help change the way throw things away because trash doesn't go away for easily.

Humans are also regularly harmed by pollution. Long-term exposure to air pollution, can lead to chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer and other diseases. More than one billion people lack access to clean water and 2.4 billion don’t have adequate sanitation, putting them at risk of contracting deadly diseases.

In this song, the woman explains how harmful landfills can be to the environment. She also gives pointers about how people can recycle trash more often and how it will be beneficial. She stated “Garbage is money if you know what I mean.” This verse can help others
understand that people throw away items that are worth something to others in need, like uneaten food.

We the people can take more control of this growing issue by recycling, reusing or even reduce our garbage overall. Also, people can help by even going out and simply picking up garbage that can be recycled and or can be used.

Many schools have made a more organized recycling systems so that plastic, paper and other materials that can be recycled won’t go to waste and can be sent to landfills

Many changed should be implemented to help the environment. For example, 80% of trash that are in landfills could have been recycled. This shows that humans can really help make a difference by just recycling everything that can be recycled.

Our classmates can help spread the word about these landfills that are polluting our Earth and that we are causing the problem. This is because all of our actions affect the world in many ways. Classmates can recycle anything that can be recycled. Also, our classmates should pick up trash and they shouldn’t litter.
