Untitled Slide

North is always at the top...
South is always at the bottom...
West is always on the left...
East is always on the right.

Sometimes people use a weird little saying to help them remember how to put the direction letters in the right place on a compass...
like...
"Never Eat Shredded Wheat"
Or some other weird nonsense,
BUT,
if you place the N, E, S, and W going the wrong way then you end up with east and west in the wrong position...

A MUCH BETTER WAY TO CHECK IF YOU HAVE THINGS RIGHT is to look at your W and E on your compass drawing....

if they are in the right position you will spell "WE" when you read across from left to right...

If they are in the wrong position it will spell
"EW"
(as in, "EW, yuck, that's wrong!")

A slightly fancier compass rose example with the diagonal directions of northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest added in.
