PRESENTATION OUTLINE

I is for Insane. Since Beatty is aware Montag has books hidden, he tells Montag how books affect a person and society. Beatty tells Montag about a dream he had and continuously quotes books to purposely confuse his thoughts. Montag feels as if he is going insane from the different information going through his mind.

J is for Joy. People who are considered normal in this society do bizarre things in order to feel joy. For example, they kill each other and go to parks to smash cars and windows. To people who are considered crazy, like Montag and Clarisse, find joy in reading books and asking questions.

L is for Lies. Beatty tries to get Montag to think that books ruin the society and cause conflict between the people. When Beatty goes to Montag's house, he tells lies about the books. He says that books make up things about history and can confuse people; so therefore, they are bad for the society.

M is for Mildred. Mildred is a perfect example of what people in this future society are like. They are against books, do risky actions, and are not happy. Most turn to pills and commit suicide, much like Mildred tried to do because she was not happy with her lifestyle.

N is for Nuisance. It is impossible for Montag to memorize a section from a book that describes him. While he is on the bus, his mind is not able to comprehend what he is reading and becomes distracted by the words 'Denham's Detrifice'. It is a nuisance to Montag that he cannot understand what books are saying.

O is for Obstacles. Throughout the book, Montag faces many obstacles. For example, Montag has to make a plan to not get caught for hiding books. Also, Montag struggles with his thoughts and is not able to understand what books are saying. Because of this, Montag goes through many difficulties to prove to others the value in books.

P is for Paradox. People in Fahrenheit 451 do not do things normal people do. Therefore, they do not do realistic actions. Most people cannot think for themselves and appear to be dead unless they are like Montag or Clarisse.

Q is for Quality. I'm this society, people do not real is that books have quality. They believe books create opinions and start conflict. Since people, unlike Clarisse and Montag, do not see the quality within books they do not have any knowledge.
