ABOUT THE NAMING CEREMONY Namkaran is one of the most important of the 16 Hindu 'samskaras' or rituals. This is generally a happy ritual - with the tensions of childbirth now over, the family comes together to celebrate the birth of the child with this ceremony.

Right from choosing a baby name to placing the baby in the cradle, every thing is carried out by following the rituals. WHO IS INVOLVED IN THE CEREMONY The people involved in the baby naming ceremony are the parents of the newborn, the paternal and maternal grandparents and few close relatives and friends. In Maharashtra, Bengal, and Rajputs of Gujarat the paternal aunt has the honour of naming her brother's child.[1] The child is dressed in new clothes and the mother wets the head of the baby with a bit of water as a symbol of purifying the child.
After the ceremony After the ceremony they put sugar or honey on the baby's lips,then they go and have a massive feast to celebrate the baby's ceremony
