MYXIMI HAGFISH

SOME FACTS

• Hagfish are eel-shaped and slime producing marine fish as there scale type
• They reside in cold water and salt water environments
• The first recorded fossil of the hagfish dates back to 300 million years ago and have changed very little in the last 300 million years basically a living fossil
• They have no stomach but a long gut this is called Agnatha

• Kingdom- animalia
• Phylum- Chordata
• Subphylum- craniata
• Class- Myxini
• They are a free living organism search for food among dead creatures

GENTIC MAKEUP

• They have no jaw they use there mouth and tongues to digest there prey and food
• Hagfish have no spine because they are full of cartilage rather than bones
• They move in a swerve motion called locomotion swaying back and forth with there tail end of there body to move forward
• We are not fully sure how hagfish reproduce they might be hermaphrodites
• Hagfish have terrible vision; rely on other senses
