Since 1878 there has been phones. There has been people talking to each other from different parts of town without getting off of their couch. Have you ever wondered what kind of phones people had before smart phones? Or, what makes your phone work? And, what kinds of apps could you get on your smartphone? Well, I am going to answer these questions.

History

  • First phone was invented in 1876 
  • Candle stick was invented in 1890 
  • The rotary was invented in 1960 
  • Push button was invented in 1963 
  • The Portable phone invented 1980
History
The first phone was invented in 1878 by Alexander Graham Bell. The first words that was said on the telephone was, “Mr. Watson, come here, i want you.” The second phone was the candlestick, invented in 1890. The candlestick had two pieces, one for your ear, and one for your mouth. Next came the rotary phone. The rotary was invented in 1960 by Almon Strowger. The rotary phone had a dial that you choose the number you want and rotate it to the barrier that won’t let you rotate it further. After that, in 1963, the push button phone was invented. The push button dial had two rows of five numbers on it. You would push the set of numbers that you would want then you would call someone. In 1918 the portable phone came to the people. The portable phone look like a T.V. remote, big and rectangular. There was a big wire on the top and the buttons were big.

  • Motorola DynaTAC was invented in 1984  
  • Motorola StarTAC was invented in 1996 
  • Notia 5110 was invented in 1998 
  • Sanyo SCP-5300 was invented in 2003 
  • Motorola RAZR was invented in 2004 
Next up was the Motorola DynaTAC in 1984. The DynaTAC was very expensive. It cost $3,995. Only the people who were rich had one of these. After that, the Notia 5110 came out. The Notia was a lot smaller than the DynaTAC. This was the first phone that had a game on it. You could play snake on the phone. Next, was the Motorola SmartTAC in 1966. The SmartTAC was the first flip phone. They were also colorful. The Sanyo SCP-5300 was invented in 2003. This was the first phone that had a camera. Then the Motorola RAZR came out in 2004. The RAZR perfected the flip phone design.

The Blackberry came out in 2007. Blackberrys are a smartphone for business.Lastly, the iphone was also invented in 2007. The iphone is touchscreen and has a lot of storage space for apps.

Main Parts of a Phone

  • Keypad
  • Earpiece
  • Microphone
  • Menu Dial
  • Camera Lens
Cell phones have many different parts. On the outside of a phone there is a keypad where your keyboard is. The earpiece that the sound comes out of. A microphone where you speak into to talk to someone. The menu dial where you type a persons number. A camera lens where you can take a picture.

And a display screen so you know what is on your phone.
On the inside of your phone there is many parts in it as well, like the microprocessor that deals with the commands and controls. The flash memory that stores all of your storage. A radio frequency that manages all of the power. And the circuit board that everything sets on.

Venn Diagram
There are many differences and similarities in computers and phones. Some of the similarities that they have are monitors, keyboards, the board that has everything on it motherboard, microprocessor, a large storage space hard drive, power supply/ battery, and video and sound cards. Some things are only in phones like, the power management, radio frequency, the thing where everything is displayed, menu dial, and the camera lens. Other things only the computer has like, the mouse, a printer, chip or chipset, a drive bay, the thing that keeps the computer cool case fan, the thing that connects you to the Wifi modem/ router, the memory, and the BIOS.

Features of a Phone
You can put many thing on your phone. They’re many different apps like games like angry birds. Others are health and fitness as in a heart pressure monitor. Lifestyle like Vogue magazines. Music and new like Pandora and the 10/11 app.

You now know the history of a phone, the main parts, and the features. There has been a very big difference in phones over 136 years. From Alexander Graham Bell to the Apple company. Now you know a little know more about your phone.
