The lanthanide family is comprised of fifteen elements starting with lanthanum (La) at atomic number 57 and finishing up with lutetium (Lu) at number 71.

FIRST DISCOVERED IN 1787 IN YTTERBY, SWEDEN, WHERE PROFESSOR GADOLIN EXAMINED THE STRANGE MINERAL.

Lutetium Uses

Catalyst is the product of Lutetium oxide for cracking hydrocarbons in the petrochemical industry.
Lutetium oxyorthosilicate also known as LSO and is currently used in the medical a field to create a three-dimensional image of the body's cellular activity. Y

-Praseodymium is used in very high-intense permanent magnets.
-Its essential in electric motors and generators used in hybrid cars, and also used commonly in wind turbines
-Praseodymium is also used in nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries for hybrid automobiles.
-Praseodymium has a salt substance that is used to color glasses

Terbium is used to make the green color on your Blackberry or other high definition screen.
It can also be used for UV lights and the presence of green glow. Terbium is another element used in the magnant to create hybrid cars.

Cerium is used in carbon-arc lighting. It's mostly used in the motion picture industry. Also it's used in phosphors for color television screens and fluorescent lighting.

Lanthanum makes up about 25% of Misch metal, a material that is used to make flints for lighters.
