  • 37,000 Vietcong troops killed
  • Created half a million civilian refugees
  • 2,500 American men died

FEBUARY 23, 1968

  • 1,300 rounds hit the marine base (khe Sanh) and its outposts
  • Bunkers were rebuilt to withstand mortar rounds.

  • General Westmoreland said abandon and demolish the base

  • Operation Rolling Thunder ends
  • 800 pilots missing or dead, hundreds in captivity
  • 120 Vietnamese planes had been destroyed
  • 182,000 North Vietnamese civilians were killed

1969

  • U.S troops begin their withdraw from Vietnam.

1973

  • The United States signs a cease-fire with North Vietnam and Vietcong.
