Once the regular season is over the playoffs will start. For many NHL players this this is one of the most important parts of the season and symbolizes hard work and the will to want the Stanley Cup, the trophy they have been dreaming of since they were little.

During the time of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals, every team that is participating in the Playoffs and Finals will have "Playoff Towels" for the fans to wave at the games. For Players this can symbolize nerves because they don't want to let their fans down. For fans this symbolizes that the Playoffs are here and great games are yet to come.

Stanley Cup Playoff beards are a large tradition in the playoffs if you participate in it. Every player grows a playoff beard during this time unless you are too young which in most cases is true, but these beards symbolize mainly superstition and luck.

The Clarise Campbell Trophy is the trophy for winning the Western Conference and the Prince of Wales Trophy is for winning the Eastern Conference. Both of these trophies symbolize that there is only one more series for your team to win and then you win the Stanley Cup and that your team has made it to the furthest part of the NHL.

One of the most strangest rituals in the NHL is the throwing of the octopus in Detroit. This only will happen during the playoffs in Detroit and for many it means that the playoffs are in Detroit. This tradition dates back to 1952 when it took Detroit 8 games to win the Stanley Cup and an octopus was used because of its 8 legs.
