January 22, 1980- El Salvador (politics) El Salvador is the second smallest country in Central America after Belize. Today the Salvadoran national guard attacked massive peaceful demonstration, killing up to 50 people. How could you kill innocent people for no reason? That is just wrong. My cousin went there before and she said it was a beautiful place. I wonder what kind of problems will come from this?
April 24, 1980- Aids (culture)
Today the first case of AIDS was found. A guy in San Francisco named Ken Horne. Aids is a spectrum of conditions caused by infections with the human immunodeficiency virus. I feel so bad for him, I hope he makes it. My cousin passed away from a disease before. So I hope it doesn't happen to him. Now I wonder if more Aid cases will be popping up more?
July 19, 1980- Olympics (culture)
Today was the opening ceremony for the Olympics. I love watching and hearing about them. I'm really excited for the men's football tournament that starts tomorrow. I really want Spain to win. Sometimes I wish I was good at football so I can be in the Olympics, that would be so cool. I wonder how Spain is going to do?
August 19, 1980- fads and fashion (culture)
I heard the first boom box was sold today. I heard a lot about them. I really want to get one. But I'm not sure if I have enough money. Maybe me and my brother will both go on in it. I have a radio at my house but not a boom box. I wonder if this trend will last a long time?
December 8, 1980- John Lennon killed (terrorism)
Today is a very sad for me. One of my favorite musicians was murdered. When I heard the news I started to cry. He was shot and killed by a man named chapman. He was 40 years old that is so young. He could of done so much more great things. My mom meet him once and got his autograph. I wonder why that guy would kill such a nice talented man?

January 20, 1981- Ronald raegan becomes president and Iranian hostage crisis ends(politics)
Today Iran released 52 hostages that have been held hostage for over a year. They released them right after the presidency was passed from carter to Reagan. The irans released the hostages to get back at president carter. Because he worked so hard to try to free them. I Am glad they were finally released. I couldn't image being held hostage for that many years. That sounds horrible. I was held hostage in my room before by my mom. I wonder how carter feels?
May 6, 1981- Terrorist acts (terrorism) President Regan expelled all Libyan diplomats from the US. This because Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi had plans to kill American diplomats. Will this plan keep out people safe? It is so horrible thinking someone would plan to kill another person. I always get concered when I hear about things like this. I am scared. My dad has been to Libyan before.
August 1, 1981- Mtv (culture)
I Am so excited MTV launched today! The first thing to air was "the buggles" "video killed the radio star". It was the music video to air on TV. MTV is going to have a great impact on the music culture. I am so glad we have a tv so I can watch it. I love music. My whole family and I watched the first episode. I wonder how big this is going to get ?
June 13, 1982- popular movies (culture)
I just saw the movie ET in the movie theater. It was so good. It came out two days ago. I have a feeling this is going to be a really popular movie. I went with my whole family. It was a good family bonding time. I wonder how much money this film is going to make?
November 30, 1982- popular music (culture)
Today the thriller album came out by Michael Jackson. I am a huge fan of him and I can't wait to listen to his album. He is such a great musician. I started to listen to him even when he was in the Jackson 5. I have a autographed t-shirt from him. My mom loves him too. This album is going to be great I already know it. I wonder how many CD he is going to sell?
December 21, 1982- ERA(politics)
Today the ERA was re introduced. There is a new amendment that will require the 2/3 vote of congress and ratification by 3/4 of the state legislature. I am surprised the ERA is still fighting for their rights. It makes me happy that they did not give up. I wonder if this will last awhile? My mom is a supporter of the ERA.
March 23, 1983- Star Wars program (politics)
Today on national TV Ronald Reagan proposed the development of the technology to intercept enemy nuclear missiles. Critics called it Star Wars. This makes me feel safe. Because we are making a great defensive system with this. It's ballistic missiles to counter the threat of a soviet nuclear attack. I am glad we are doing this to protect our country. My mom meet Reagan once, she said he was a nice man. I wonder how much work and time this will take?
October 25, 1983- Grenada (politics)
Today we are raiding Grenada. Two days after the bombing of the U.S. Marine court. We are doing it because we have Americans over there. So we are doing it to secure their safety. I hope we over throw their government. I wonder if everyone will be safe? My dad is apart of the raid.
August 12, 1983- Manuel Noriega (politics)
Today Manuel Noriega became the military leader of panama. This year has been quite the year for Manuel Noriega. He began to take command of the Panamanian Army after being promoted to lieutenant colonel and chief of military intelligence. He then today was promoted to general and commander of the National Guard. He has acheived alot I guess you could say. So good for him. I don't really care about this guy. He kind of looks shady to me. But me dad likes him. I wonder what else he is gonna do?
March 9, 1984- New Gov (politics)
Reagan set new conservative standards. Republicans took control of the senate for the first time since 1954. He is transforming the politics of untied states. He was against communism and Soviet Union. He is such a great guy. His changes he is making are great. I am glad he is in charge. My dad loves him. I wonder what else he is going to do?
