LEADING CAUSES

  • Logging companies cutting trees down for money
  • Farmers cutting trees down for extra farm land
  • Clearing of trees for new roads and towns

NATURAL OR ANTHROPOGENIC?

  • Deforestation is anthropogenic
  • It is also natural because wildfires can burn down forests
  • As well as termites and other animals cutting down trees
  • But for the most part it is mostly because of humans

EFFECTS ON BIOSPHERE

  • Loss of habitat for millions of species
  • Climate change
  • Disruption of the water cycle

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

  • Easy: stop cutting down trees
  • More practical: carefully manage forest
  • resources by eliminating clear cutting to make
  • sure that forest environments remain intact
  • Clear cutting: clearing all trees from a given tract of land
