WHO WAS JAMES COOK?

  • Born on October 27, 1728.
  • Died from spear wounds.
  • George Vancouver sailed with Cook.
  • He was a good mapmaker and navigator.
  • He worked on a coal ship when he was a young boy.
  • When he was 18 he went to sea.
  • He joined England's Navy when he was 27.
  • The Navy made him a Captain.
  • Died at 51 from his fight with Hawaiians

WHAT DID JAMES COOK DO?

  • He tried to find a sea route to Asia.
  • He tried to find new lands to claim for England.
  • He found the Hawaiian islands and Australia and New Zealand.
  • He battled the Hawaiian people.
  • He sailed to Antartica but ran into ice bergs.

  • He found the Hawaiian islands.
  • He found new zealand

WHEN DID JAMES COOK GO EXPLORING?

  • He sailed on many voyages for long amounts of time.
  • In 1776, he was the first to sail across the Pacific Ocean and it took him two years.
  • This was when he found the Hawaiian islands.

WHY

  • Try to find sea route to Asia for spices and riches.
  • The Hawaiian people stole his goods and he battled to get them back but he failed.

  • He sailed on the ship called "endeavour".
  • The ships had lots of storage for their food and weapons.
