Greece

is located between the Mediterranean and Agean Seas.

We in America say,
"Merry Christmas."

The Greeks' holiday greeting is "Hronia Pollo."

In Greece, Santa arrives on a ship, and he is drenched in sweat from protecting sailors.

We have Santa in America, although he arrives from a sleigh pulled by reindeer.

In America and Greece, people walk the streets and sing Christmas carols.

After caroling in the USA, we might drink hot chocolate and snack on cookies.

When caroling in Greece, they serve dried figs and cookies called korabiethes.

In America, we exchange gifts on December 25, the day of Christ's birth.

Gifts in the USA are typically clothes, toys, and electronics.

While they give gifts in Greece, their day is different, St. Basil's Day, January 1, in honor of a Greek bishop.

Instead of numerous gifts, the people of Greece only give a few and choose to donate to charities like orphanages, hospitals, and missions to aid those in need.

An American Christmas meal might include ham, turkey, dressing, cakes, and pies.

In Greece, a traditional meal served has pork from a newly slaughtered pig and the sweet Christopsomo bread.

The Twelve Days of Christmas in Greece is when Kilannzoroi, an evil goblin comes out to cast spells.

America's "Twelve Days of Christmas" is a song about presents for a "true love."

Christmas trees in Greece are typically spiritual, so they are decorated with stars and tinsel.

Holiday trees in America may represent a variety of themes depending on hobbies, location, family, or church preference.
