  • Others died from the extreme levels of stress they suffered
  • Others were killed by the internment guards

WW2

  • In 1943, all internees over the age of 17 were asked two questions.
  • 1:Are you willing to serve in the Armed Forces of the U.S. on combat duty wherever ordered ?
  • 2: Will you swear unqualified allegiance to the U.S.A and fully defend the U.S from any or all attack
  • By foreign or domestic forces and forswear any form of allegiance or obedience to the Japanese
  • Emperor, to any other foreign government power or organization?

WW2

  • The cause for Japanese internment was racial prejudice.
  • Also because of wartime hysteria and a failure of political leadership.

WW2

  • 1983, a US congressional convention decided that we acted rashly in WW2.
  • They found evidence from the 1940s proving that there had been no military necessity for what happened.
  • They said there was no military necessity for the unequal, unjust treatment of Japanese Americans in WW2.
