PRESENTATION OUTLINE
What Is a Renewable RESOURCE
A Renewable Resource is - to simply put it , a gift that keeps on giving... something that never runs out......
Some examples renewable resources are trees, plants, water, and the sun
Examples of Non-RENEWABLE Resources
- Like coal, nuclear, oil, and natural gas, are available in limited supplies. This is usually due to the long time it takes for them to be replenished.
With those THINGS in mind we can focus on ENERGY!
Leading Renewable energy sources
- The leading forms of non renewable energy include Biomass and hydroelectric.
- Geothermal and wind are used, but less frequently .
Biomass
- Forms of Biomass include wood and crops.
- Crops such as sugar cane, corn and soybeans can be used at fuels for oils ..
- Biomass is used for clothing , food , and shelter as well as energy.
Hydroelectric Energy
- Hydropower is the force of the energy of moving water.
Hydropower is clean renewable energy source that doesn't pollute environment like fossil fules .
Hydropower uses the Earth's water cycle to generate electricity because movement of water as it flows downstream creates kinetic energy that can be then converted into electricity.
Wind power
- Can turn a turbine
- Hundreds of "wind farms ."
- 1/3 of the country is considered wind enough to make wind turbine power completely possible.
- Did you know that a single wind turbine can pwer 500 homes?
Disadvantages of Geothermal
- Some disadvantages are sustainability.
- It is very expensive
- It can cause earthquakes
Nuclear FUSION
- Fusion is the fusing of hydrogen atoms to form something called helium.
- For these atoms to fuse it must be done by a really high temperatures.
- Nuclear fission is often done at a nuclear reactor.. a downfall for this is there have been cases of the reactors actually exploding!
- A downfall for
Solar energy
- Solar energy or the sun is a good example of a renewable resource. Because as far as I know the sun will not go away!
- Solar Energy supplies the US wil nearly .006% of our energy .
Passive Solar Energy Systems
Passive Solar Energy
- Passive solar energy is the capturing of light through "special" devices
Collects solar energy and converts it to heat to electricity.
INDIRECT Electricity Conversion
INDIRECT Electricity Conversion
Explain......
- CAPTURED WITH PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL (PV CELL)- IS A SPECIALIZED SEMICONDUCTOR DIODE THAT CONVERTS VISIBLE LIGHT INTO DIRECT CURRENT (DC).(google definition)
- converts light to electrical energy
Uses for Renewable Energy
Instead of the usage of fossil fules tom power motor vehicles we have tried electric cars . Which limits pollution but isn't as popular as natural gas and oil .
Recycling is the separation , collection, and reuse of unwanted material.
Untitled Slide
- Recycling methods
- recovery facilities
- drop off centers
- buy-back centers
- deposit programs
- No matter where you drop it off your recyled materail is used to crewate new things.
reducing Discharges
- POLLUTION CAN BE PREVENTED IF THE AMOUNT OF WASTE IS REDUCED AT A LEVEL THAT THE ENVIORMENT CAN ASSIMILATE.......
- Change mix of inputs
- Reuse demand for product
- Reuse demand in different production
A second way to handle POLLUTION is to increase the capacity of the enviorment
Cooking Plant
- A cooking plant- A COOKING PLANT- REDUCES DISCHARGES OF WASTE BY PURCHASING CLEANER-COAL BURNING OIL . IT TRANSFORMS HEAT INTO LIQUID...
Untitled Slide
- Consumers will learn to waste less , either by reducing the consumtion of products and recycling alot more!
