Who were the Moors?

The Moors were a group of dark skinned people who ruled Spain for 800 years then moved to England and other various parts of the world.

Do the Moors still exist today?

Yes there are still a small population of Moorish people living among us throughout the world.

What did they do that affects us today?

The Moorish people introduced paper and many different crops to England's people, which the whole world still uses today.

What crops did they grow?

Fruits: oranges, peaches, lemons, apricots, fig, dates, pomegranates

Other: sugar cane,ginger, saffron, silk, and rice

Which these remain some of Spain's main crops to this day

What else did the Moors do?

They Moors brought the compass from China to Europe, they also introduced the Arabic numerals which replaced the Roman system.

The Moorish people introduced a new scientific technique to England, it was called the Astrolabe, a device for measuring the position of stars and planets, which has resulted progress in astronomy.

What is an Astrolabe?
An Astrolabe is a astronomical computer for solving problems relating to the time & position of the sun & stars in the sky.
