HISTORY

• Incorporated on March 6, 1834
• Originally referred to as York

IMMIGRANTS

• During the Irish Famine, a large number of Irish Protestants came to Toronto
• Many others came in the late 90th Century (Germans, Italians, Jews, Chinese, Russians, etc
• Population swelled to over one million by 1951, over 2 million by 1971
