Chapter 23
Karana finds a baby otter injured in kelp, and takes him in. Karana fed the otter for a while. And one day she could not fish for the otter. So the otter left as did the Aleuts that came earlier.

Chapter 24
Karana looks at her animal friends and thinks of her sister and Tutok. As she does she sets off for abalones and found
Won-a-nee and her otter pups.
After that she made a vow to kill another animal.

Chapter 25
In chapter 25 Karana doggy Rontu died. And she is so depressed she acts as life doesn't matter anymore.

chapter 26
karana goes by where the sea elephants and saw a dog that looks like her old dog Rontu and makes plan to catch him and fails. Then drugs him and captures him,she names Rontu-Aru.

Chapter 27
Karana gets caught in an earth quake.She feels as if the world is falling apart.

Chapter 28
The earth quake did little damage to Karana.But she lost all her food,weapons, and canoes she had stored.In the wreckage Karanafound a canoe fragment,so she decides to build another canoe.

Chapter 29
Karana decides she wants to go with the ship. Whenshe meets them they try to communicate and make Karana a dress. When they leave she finds out her tribe died on the ship during a storm.
