Neuschwanstein Castle

This castle was meant to be a refuge for king Ludwig ll of Bavaria, but after he died (in 1886) it was immediately opened to the public. Today millions of people vist each day.

Brandenburg Gate

From 1961 to 1989 the Brandenburg Gate symbolized divided Germany as the Berlin wall cut off access to the gate from both sides. The gate was reopened when West Germany's Chancellor (Helmut Kohl) and East Germany's Prime Minister (Hans Modrow) walked thorough the gate to shake hands. In 2000 the gate went under restoration and in 2002 the gate officially opened up once more.

Heidelberg Old City

Heidelberg Old City, first mentioned in the year 1196, has been through a lot in its many years. It was the capital of Rhenish Palatinate until 1720. It was tragically torn apart in 1622 during the Thirty Years' War and was almost completely destroyed in 1689 ands 1693 by the French, but is still standing.
