The Stamp Act/The Stamp Act Congress

  • The Stamp Act was a law that parliament pass, forcing the colonies
  • Pay tax on everything they bought.
  • The people in the colony did not like it so parliament took away the law.

This is a item that people bought and paid taxes on

The Townshend Duties

  • It was found to collect revenue from the colonies
  • Import duties like glass, paint, paper, tea, glass, and etc.
  • The colony refuse to do pay these taxes

The Tea Act

  • The idea of the Tea Act was to save the British East India Company
  • The company could've ships it's tea to colonies without paying taxes
  • The colonies got angry and started a boyscott

THOMAS SUMTER

  • Born in Virginia and served in the Seven Years War.
  • He is known as the Carolina Gamecock
  • He served in the French and Indian War
  • He served in the House Of Representatives and the U.S. Senate

Charles Pinckney

  • he was born October, 1757
  • in 1787 he got married to Mary Laurens
  • he served in the continental congress in 1784 
  • he became governor 4 times
  • he was captured in 1780

Henry Middleton

  • He was born in 1717 in Charleston,SC
  • He was a memebrr of the "King's Council" in America
  • He was also a memeber of the SC house of common
  • He was elected as a delegate from South Carolina to the First Continental Congress.
  • He died June 13,1784

SC ROLE IN THE 2ND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS

  • 16 delegates served during the 2nd C.C
  • They were planters who represent the lowcountry
  • They also supported independence

"No Taxation Without Representation" Meaning

This phrase means that the colonist wanted representation in the British parliament before having to pay taxes to the British

Patriots

  • People who wanted independence from the british
  • They wanted the U.S to be on their own
  • People wanted independence from the british because they felt they weren't getting treated fairly
  • They were force to pay tax without a say or cause

Torries/Loyalists

  • People who wanted to stay loyal to the brtish and still be a citizen
  • They thought they would live better if they stay with the british
  • Sone people thought the british knew more than the patriots did

  • women back then had different laws they had to follow from men
  • They were not allowed to vote and work
  • They had to stay home and take care of there children 

ENSLAVED/FREE AFRICANS

  • A enslave is a person who wasn't a slave a slave
  •  A free African is a person who got out of slavery or a person who was 
  • never in slavery 

BATTLE OF CHARLESTON

  • the battle was between the British and the americans
  • British gained control of South and the Americans lost many soldiers due to the surrender.
  • The battle was located in Charleston,SC

COWPENS

  • Cowpens is located in Spartanburg
  •  in January of 1781, that Colonial troops roundly defeated the top-notch British unit known as the British Legion. 
  • Their unexpected defeat left the British decrease in numbers

FRANCIS MARION

  • Francis Marion was born in Berkeley County, S.C
  • In 1761 he took part in the war against the Cherokee Indians as a lieutenant of militia
  • In September 1775 he led his company in capturing the forts in Charleston harbor from the British. 
  • He is known as th e Swamp Fox

WILLIAM HARDEN

  • William Harden was born on November 11, 1844 in Savannah Georgia  
  • hewas known as Indian or Big Bill Hardin
  • He was a fighter and he was in the Militia 
  • He had ten children 

NATIVE AMERICANS

  • were the first to lived in the U.S.
  • They traded with the settlers who came to America
  • the white settlers soon took advantage of the native american and 
  • forces some of them into slavery 
  • The native americans became slaves to the settlers

  •  Battle of Kings Mountain was 1780, in South Carolina 
  • The battle was between the American and the British 
  • The battle was about America getting freedom from the British
