PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OUR CELL CITY

By Isabella Carrera, Faith Jorden, and Sydney Goldman

NUCLEUS- CITY HALL

  • It controls all the functions of the cell and the organelles within the cell
  • It contains all the DNA found within a cell like how a city hall would contains city's records
  • The nucleus regulates the functions of a cell, like the city hall regulates the city's functions

NUCLEOLUS-MAYOR'S OFFICE

CYTOPLASM- MIAMI PD

  • The cytoplasm works hand and hand with nucleus and so does the Miami PD with the city hall
  • The Miami PD protects the City Hall like the cytoplasm protects the nucleus

VACUOLES- PUBLIC SELF STORAGE

  • Vacuoles store materials like salts, water, proteins, and carbohydrates which cells use as needed
  • A public storage facility if used to store a material until they are needed

LYSOSOMES- WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • Lysosomes are like a waste management facility because they both clean up after the cell/city
  • Lysosomes are vital to the cell because it cleans up the "junk" in the cell that can cause clutter
  • Waste management is vital to the city because it cleans up the trash in the city that can cause the city to look messy
  • Both of these items are vital to the upkeep of the city and the cell

GOLGI APPARATUS- USPS

  • The golgi apparatus is like the US Postal Service because they both label an item and send it off to its destination
  • The Golgi apparatus labels proteins, while the USPS labels packages
  • The Golgi Apparatus is vital to the cell because it keeps verything flowing out of the cell
  • The USPS is vital to the city because it keeps people on the same page and it keeps people getting their things

CYTOSKELTON-CITY LIMITS

  • The cytoskeleton and the city limits are very similar
  • In a cell the cytoskeleton gives the cell its shape and internal organization
  • In the city, city limits give the city its shape and boundaries, and it make sure everything is inside

MICROFILAMENTS- BUILDING DEPARTMENT

  • The microfilaments in a cell help form extensive networks
  • In a cell, they also produce a tough, flexible framework that supports the cell
  • In a city, the building department planes where everything is going to be located
  • Also in the city, buildings make up the city structure and the character of the city

MICROTUBULES- STREETS

  • Microtubules help maintain the cells shape
  • Microtubules are made up of hollow structures
  • Microtubules are like streets because streets help maintain the city's landscape and structure

CENTRIOLES- MOVING TRUCK

  • Centrioles and a moving truck we think go hand and hand
  • Centrioles help organize cell division and they guide the cell when it decides its time to move
  • A moving truck in a city helps mive the civilians when they think its time to move

RIBOSOMES- CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

  • Ribosomes and a construction company are very similar to one another
  • Ribosomes produce proteins with a special code for DNA
  • A construction company designs buikding from a plan the city designers gave them

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM- HIGHWAYS

  • In a cell, the endoplasmic reticulum assembles the lipid components of the membrane
  • Other materials and proteins sre exported from the cell through the endoplasmic reticulum
  • In a city, the highways help make exporting easier

MITOCHONDRIA- DWP

  • These two items are very similar to each other
  • Mitochondria are the power plants of a cell
  • They convert chemical energy stored in foods in to usable energy for the cell
  • Mitochondria is like DWP because DWP converts water and energy into a usable form of enrgy of the city

CELL MEMBRANE- COAST GUARD/PORT PATROL

  • These two items need a little more thought
  • The cell membrane has a lipid bilayer
  • All cells contain a cell membrane
  • All cities have some sort of secure border it just changes for each city
  • Miami has water so it will be the coast guard patroling what comes in and out on boats
