What is the moral of the story?

  • We HAVE to know what the scores we are reporting mean, or our data has no meaning.
  • Since we HAVE to spend a great deal of time and effort to be data-based, we need to make sure it is meaningful and useful

Norm? Who's Norm?

Are you on a ladder or a curve?

There are many types of data!

  • Nominal---a list that is not quantitative (phone book, class list)
  • Ordinal--rank order data; curved (percentile, WIAT, GE)
  • Interval--ranked in equal intervals; ladder (MAP, temperature)
  • Ratio--has absolute 0; part to a whole (percents, attendance data)

  • What is it?
  • What it isn't?
  • Try it in parent-friendly language
  • Why do we need to be careful with it?

Use a PLAAFP to create a kiddo

  • As your OPI monitor would say, make sure your PLAAFP has:
  • Current performance (qualitative and quantitative). What they can do; what they can't do. Academic and functional.
  • Baseline for MAG
  • Show how the disability affects progress in regular curriculum

Share your PLAAFP with a new partner

When your partner is done say, "Wow! That was amazing! Thanks."

You know what's next! Create 2-3 MAGs using your amazing baseline data.
